Peter Whitfield wins Outstanding Achievement Award at PPMA

Appetite for Engineering founder and former Food Processing publisher Peter Whitfield has won the PPMA Group 2012 Award for Outstanding Achievement

The Award was primarily for Peter's contribution to the industry particularly in the area of skills training and development, and apprenticeships for the food and beverage processing industry.

Described as a 'maverick' by the PPMA, he was praised for his commitment to improving skills, and for his efforts to bring attention to skills issues with his founding of Appetite for Skills.

''I'm totally surprised and absolutely delighted and it's thanks to the many people who've supported the ideas and initiatives that we've come up with,'' said Peter. ''The skills initiative is just starting to roll and it's very exciting. In addition, it's great to get recognition from the PPMA and its members, an association that's been so supportive and cooperative in the skills initiative.''

Dan Jago, IML Director and Publisher of Food Processing magazine said: ''I am absolutely thrilled. Peter had no idea he would be receiving this recognition but needless to say, after he recovered from shock, he still managed to tell a joke on stage.

''This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the passion, knowledge and drive that Peter brings to the table.''
