SMC has become one of several top names in the manufacturing industry that will participate in Appetite for Engineering.

Said Steve Bangs, MD of SMC Pneumatics (UK): "It was a real honour for SMC to be included in Forbes' magazine's list of the world's top 100 most innovative companies recently - so what better place to showcase how we can help other forward-thinking manufacturers than at the 'Appetite for Engineering' event. Because it's a forum for sharing new ideas, the companies attending will be there because like us, they have an interest in innovation.

"SMC has a team which partners a range of industries to help us understand their needs, and that includes a specific focus on the food and drink sector. So at 'Appetite for Engineering' we'll be showing some of our most innovative products that we know can help companies in this sector improve their manufacturing efficiency, output and profitability. ''

SMC Corporation was established in Tokyo on 27 April 1959; its chairman is Yoshiyuki Takada and the president is Katasunori Maruyama. With 15,170 employees, its net sales reached ¥220.9 Billion (€2.01 Billion) and it has 64 sales offices and five factory locations.

In addition to the 160 staff based in Milton Keynes, SMC has a nationwide sales team of more than 100 technically-trained sales engineers. Thanks to relationships with 40 regional and national distributors, its products are sold at 750 trade counters across the UK.

Other exhibitors of Appetite for Engineering include Festo, Ishida Europe, ABB, Rittal, Mitsubishi Electric and the PPMA. Appetite is now in its fifth year, and will feature speakers such as the MD of General Mills, Jim Moseley; food technologist John Quinn of Marks & Spencer; engineering manager of Greencore Cakes & Desserts, Graham Thomas, and engineering manager of The Jordans & Ryvita Company, Tristan Holloway.
