So Business Development Manager Paul Griffin was not totally surprised to receive his third order in 20 years from Ramsaran Dairy Products in Trinidad and Tobago, for a similar 200 gallon batch pasteuriser.

“Our batch pasteuriser dates back around 30 years but remains an effective and reliable means of pasteurising a variety of products, including milk. We were delighted to hear from Mr Ramsaran once more and I’m sure the unit will perform as well as those we supplied in the past. The only ‘modernisation’ requested is a more accurate manual method for measuring liquid in the vessel.” Paul explained.

Ramsaran Dairy Products may be a small dairy by European standards but it is important to the island’s dairy and beverage industries. Trinidad has relatively few processing plants for its declining number of mainly small-scale dairy farmers. The dairy therefore ensures competition and helps to sustain an increasingly fragile supply chain in a market that is otherwise heavily dependent on imports. The dairy produces a range of milk and juice products.

Paul Griffin added: “At one time many UK farmers would have used a batch pasteuriser of this type to process milk from their own herds for a local milk round. That sort of business has all but disappeared but this type of equipment still has good potential in certain niche world markets. We feel this demonstrates the flexibility of Tetra Pak CPS to meet the diverse requirements of the dairy and beverage market place.”
