Hygienic flow measurement solution

16 April 2024

The SM Foodmag magnetic-inductive flowmeter from ifm is said to offer a solution for the hygienic flow measurement of media presenting variable flow rates through the pipe, such as beer, milk or fruit juice.

Cleaning processes involving the use of chemicals, rapid temperature changes and hot steam cleaning requiring a minimum temperature of 121°C can pose significant challenges for flowmeters and there is a need to be able to withstand vibration and shock.

The SM Foodmag magnetic-inductive flowmeter is designed to overcome all of these challenges.

It offers the measurement of several parameters in one device – flow, total quantity, temperature and conductivity are recorded and output. It also detects whether the measuring pipe is completely filled. An app-based menu and an capacitive pushbutton in the sensor, makes parameter setting quick and easy.

The flowmeter is also said to be easy to install having a single connection cable, which can also translate into cost savings during installation. In terms of mechanical integration, the manufacturer has taken care to ensure a smooth installation. The sensor can communicate via IO-Link, analogue signal 4...20 mA or pulse signal.
