Overcoming product effect

Highly conductive products represent a challenge for metal detectors, reducing the level of detection sensitivity that can be achieved.

This was the problem faced by one food manufacturer. Its salad dressings are highly conductive salt solutions, which have a negative impact on metal detectors, influencing the magnetic field and masking the signal of foreign objects.

The company experienced high levels of erroneous rejections so it set out to find a better inspection solution – identifying the Mitus metal detector from Minebea Intec. 

The flexible MiWave feature of the Mitus is designed to generate a variety of modulated frequencies in the transmitter signal, which can then be separated and evaluated using an intelligent algorithm. Thanks to its high level of detection sensitivity, the metal detector is able to detect and show even the smallest metal contaminations despite the high product effect.

Today, before the finished salad dressings are approved for order picking, each product is checked for metallic foreign objects using a Mitus metal detector which has made it possible to detect and show the presence of even the smallest foreign objects despite the high product effect.
