Dust-free flexible connection

18 September 2023

Transferring powdered solid products from one process to another in a food factory requires the two processes to be connected in some way. Traditionally, this has been achieved using flexible sleeves held in place by hose clip fasteners.

These, the connectors, however, are prone to failure – resulting in product loss and dusty, un-hygienic environments. In addition, build-up of product around the connector seal can result in cross-contamination issues.

Prospare believes it can offer a better solution with the BFM snap-in flexible connector which comes with a variety of sleeves for different products and applications. It promises a leak free solution that also enables changeovers to be completed in less than 20 seconds without the need for any tools and eliminates the risk of cross contamination.

Because there is no product build-up around the connection, it offers and much more hygienic solution than clamped products, where crevices offer a opportunity for bacteria to breed.

Less dust leakage also means there is significantly less lost production time for connector re-placements and clean-ups and the environment is more comfortable for operators.

The BFM fitting system comprises two spigots (or flanges) that are welded to the pipes, and
a snap-fit flexible connector that seats on the inside of the shaped portion of the two spigots, holding it securely in place. The fittings are available in a range of standard nominal metric diameters and lengths:

The materials and design of the BFM fitting connector system are durable so they don’t need to be replaced as often as other connectors, according to Prospare.
