Adaptable progressive cavity pump

27 March 2023

With many foodstuffs, ingredients and even cleaning chemicals being stored in containers around the food factor, it’s not uncommon to have multiple barrel or IBC pumps onsite.

It is important to consider the barrel pump’s total lifetime cost which means not only considering the upfront cost, but also what is economical in the long term. Could a process change mean you end up having to replace them before the end of their life? Or are you spending too much time maintaining your pump? The new modular VISCOPOWER progressive cavity pump, available from Castle Pumps was designed to overcome these issues – by simply changing the screws, stators, motors or seals the pump can be adapted to suit modified processes.

Thanks to its standardised clamp connections and fewer parts to remove, dismantling for cleaning and maintenance is said to be up to 80% quicker with the VISCOPOWER than with other barrel pumps. A standardised clamp connection on the discharge means that all kinds of hose connections, outlet fittings, flow meters and bypass valves can also be fitted to the pump.

The pump is capable of high pressure pumping up to 15 bar, solid handling up to 8mm, gentle pumping for shear sensitive medias and transferring both low and high viscosity fluids up to 100,000 mPas. It has minimal dead space for bacteria to harbour, it features electropolished surfaces and versions with a closed mechanical seal and FDA/3A approvals.
