Nominations are open for the NEW Food Processing Partnership Awards 2023

We are delighted to be able to introduce you to the Food Processing Partnership Awards 2023, which will take place at the Coombe Abbey Hotel in Coventry, on the evening of our annual Appetite for Engineering event (which is being held at the nearby Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry) on 19th October.

We have created the Food Processing Partnership Awards to move our original Food Processing Awards forwards and to acknowledge that there is an ever-greater need for collaboration to overcome the challenges facing our sector today. Engineers working in food production need to partner with the right organisations and individuals to gather together all the knowledge needed to make engineering projects a success. As digital technology advances further into our lives and our factories, engineering projects require a greater mix of skills and a broader knowledge base to ensure long-term success. Effective partnerships and collaboration – between academia, consultants, technology providers, integrators, machine builders and the end-user – can create a better environment for project success. 

This year we are accepting nominations from any one of the partnering organisations that have worked as part of a team to find a technology-led solution to solve a food processing challenge. You can be an end-user, system integrator, machine builder, technology provider, consultant or academic – if you have been involved in a project that you think deserves to be rewarded then let us know. 

The Food Processing Partnership Award 2023 categories will include:

MOST SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP 
To recognise the importance of partnering for success in food and beverage engineering technology projects. We want to shine a light on all the elements needed, and all those involved in helping a project meet and/or exceed the project goals for a food or beverage manufacturer.

SKILLS & TRAINING INITIATIVE
To recognise innovation and success in engineering training initiatives which address an in-house skills issue; or which demonstrate skills improvements and/or improves staff engagement for food processing enterprises.

PRODUCTION SUSTAINABILITY 
Recognising the steps being taken by a food processing company and its technology providers to improve production sustainability. 

PROCESS PLANT TECHNOLOGY 
To recognise innovation in process plant technology products, projects or partnerships. We are looking for innovative new products, services, projects or successful process technology partnerships that have delivered measurable benefits to a food or beverage manufacturer.

PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY 
To recognise innovation within the packaging area of a food or beverage plant. We are looking for innovative new products, services, projects or successful process technology partnerships that have delivered measurable benefits to a food or beverage manufacturing organisation.

HYGIENE & FOOD SAFETY 
To recognise innovations that help improve hygiene or food safety. We are looking for new products, services, projects or successful process technology partnerships that have delivered hygiene or food safety benefits in a food or beverage manufacturing environment. 

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION 
To recognise technology developments, projects, and the importance of partnerships for the successful deployment of digital solutions in food and beverage manufacturing environments.

FUTURE LEADERS 
Celebrating the best engineering apprentices and young engineers working in the food industry. Do you have an individual working in your organisation who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and achievement in their work and who, through their professionalism and enthusiasm, stand out as a high performer within your engineering team?

TECHNOLOGY PROVIDER OF THE YEAR
To celebrate and reward automation and technology providers for the creation of successful solutions for the food and beverage processing sectors.

We hope these categories will inspire you to send us your nominations. Anyone involved in creating a successful engineering solution can nominate. You can nominate your own company; or an organisation you work alongside or you can nominate a team that worked for you to solve an engineering problem.

As past winners will testify, receiving an award can boost an organisation's reputation, and give potential new customers greater confidence in their capabilities as well as boosting their credibility. Awards can also give employees a morale boost, by highlighting the hard work and achievements of both teams and individuals. 

Just to give you an idea, previous winners of a Food Processing Award which would fit well into the new Food Processing Partnership Awards include Kecol, whose partnership with Burtons Biscuits proved to be a winning formula, allowing the company to significantly reduce waste when transferring caramel with two priming systems that included Kecol’s ratio piston pumps. Kecol was able to meet its customers specific needs by customising its standard system – the result was a reduction in waste caramel from between 10% and 30% to less than 1%, which has helped reduce expenditure and increase yield.

Brillopak was another worthy winner, with its automated dual robot packing cells for Morrisons Potato Processing & Packing Plant. The solution was designed to load fresh produce into retailer crates/cases, helping to improve pack presentation and reduce reliance on costly agency staff to do this task manually.

• A brief statement about the impact of the nomination for the food and beverage processing sector.
• Brief evidence or recommendations about the benefits – if applicable.
