Reducing production downtime with digital services

06 June 2022

OTTO is a digital service from Busch Vacuum Solutions that combines condition monitoring of vacuum pumps with service packages with the aim of providing high process reliability and lower cost of ownership in factories.

Production downtime is costly problem for food factories. Internet of Things (IoT) solutions can help to reduce production downtime and save money.

OTTO, for example, is a digital service from Busch Vacuum Solutions which combines condition monitoring of vacuum pumps with service packages with the aim of providing high process reliability and lower cost of ownership in factories.

Busch installs a proprietary sensor package at the vacuum pumps, which collects and processes data. The data is stored in the cloud via a mobile connection. The IoT box monitors process state and vacuum pump conditions. For example, the ambient temperature, oil temperature and the remaining time until the next maintenance of the vacuum pump. The IoT dashboard provides all collected performance data 24/7. The data is interpreted, and performance trends are shown. To optimize the production, a summarising report is produced as well as recommendations for more efficient operation.

OTTO digital services come in two different packages tailored to the needs of the customer. The OTTO system detects developing issues before they become a problem. Risks and costs associated with unplanned downtime are avoided and lead to optimum process reliability and higher productivity in factories. Busch vacuum pumps can be retrofitted with the Busch IoT kit as part of an OTTO package.
