Food Processing Awards 2022: nominations are open!

Nominations for entry into our annual Food Processing Awards – which are designed to acknowledge and reward engineering excellence and innovation in the food and beverage processing sector – are now open!

The Food Processing Awards 2022 categories are: 

• Robotics & automation 
• Lean / continuous improvement 
• Young engineer of the year 
• Lifetime achievement 
• Hygiene & food Safety 
• Process & packaging 
• Skills & development 
• Smart / digital technology 
• Environmental / sustainability 

You can nominate your own company; you can nominate an innovative product that was developed to solve a food processing issue; or you can nominate a food industry engineering project that incorporates automation technology and has helped solve a problem. 

To nominate all we need is:

• Contact name, address, phone number and email of nominee and category. 
• Details about the nominated product/application/technology/person. (and high-resolution image where possible).
• A brief statement about the potential impact of the nomination for the food and beverage processing sector
• Brief evidence or customer recommendations about the benefits – if applicable. 

Nominations should be sent to the editor of Food Processing – Suzanne.gill@imlgroup.co.uk – before 11th July. After this date we will be presenting the final nominations to the readers of Food Processing for their consideration.

Just to get you thinking about nominations, last year’s winners included Grundfos Pumps for its water pumping solution for Britvic which helped the company meet its energy targets. A packaged booster set solution resulted in a reduction in energy costs of 45% for pumping water around the facility which translated into cost savings of around £60,000 per year. 

Judges also chose Brillopak’s UniPAKer dual robot cells for Morrisons Potato Processing & Packing Plant as a winning entry. The automated solution loads fresh produce into retailer crates/cases. It improved pack presentation in crates and reduced waste and reliance on agency staff. 

Kecol’s partnership with Burtons Biscuits also proved to be winning formula allowing the company to significantly reduce waste when transferring caramel with two priming systems that included Kecol’s ratio piston pumps. It met Burton Biscuit’s specific needs, Kecol customised its standard system – the result was a reduction in waste caramel from between 10% and 30% to less than 1%, which helped reduce expenditure and increase yield.
