Hygienic motors with proven financial benefits

20 May 2019

It’s obvious to say it but the food industry is a hygiene sensitive operation. No matter whether you are a manufacturer or an end user one of the principal concerns is ensuring the consumer receives a safe to eat or drink product. Failure to focus on this could have serious consequences - businesswise and legally.

Most equipment/machinery employed in the food industry requires motive power. A very practical and economic means of delivering this power is achieved using ‘Marlin’ stainless steel IP69K/66 motors matched with, if required, smooth bodied gearboxes and IP66 variable speed drives. Evidence of the versatility of such equipment packages based upon Lafert’s Marlin solutions is their effective employment in many diverse applications, such as poultry processing plants, salad chopping, fish processing, breakfast cereal manufacture, vegetable preparation and fruit juice blending/mixing.

Success in all these applications is proven through more effective, easier cleaning; reduced downtime for maintenance; elimination of potential contamination through product build-up and/or flaking paint as experienced with conventional painted, finned motors; and motor longevity. All of which combine to deliver enhanced system performance and rapid return on investment.

In addition to being IP69K/66 rated, the Marlin range of motors are available as either IE2 or IE3 units in powers ranging up to 15kW in order to meet the latest legislation. They are smooth bodied with no crevices to harbour waste material or other potential contaminants; a combination ensuring easy cleaning and enhanced hygiene.

Marlin motors are available as TENV (Totally Enclosed Non-Ventilated), TEAOM (Totally Enclosed Air-Over Motor) and TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan-Cooled). There is even a water-cooled stainless motor designed for use in extreme conditions where additional cooling is required.

Lafert is even able to offer pre-wired packages (motor to inverter) with stainless cable glands and fully encapsulated terminal boxes to ensure the integrity of the system is not put at risk during installation and connection procedures.
