Find out about the benefits of automation for your operation

11 March 2019

Have you ever considered how automation could benefit your operations? To learn more about the opportunities and challenges of automation within the food industry join industry experts at Universal Robots on the UK Cobot Automation Tour of 2019 where you’ll get hands-on experience of the collaborative robots and hear from experts about how to best optimise production efficiency through cobots and automation, while adhering to food production regulations.

The Automation Tour kicked off on February 12th in Oxford, but don’t worry if you missed the first stop – we’ll be popping up and down the UK with the cobots all the way into the summer. We’re excited to announce the locations for the upcoming events which will be taking place in Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Edinburgh and finally Southampton, where the tour will end on the 11th July.

We believe that automation really is for everybody and every industry – our cobots can even make pizza! By joining the tour you’ll be able to see that automation really is suitable for businesses of all sizes and all industries, even food processing! In order to demonstrate the wide variety of tasks that cobots can be programmed to carry out, a wide range of UR + partners will also be exhibiting their automation solutions, providing you with the perfect opportunity to see a wide range of end-effectors and tooling.

Places are filling up quickly, so make sure to register your interest here to reserve your space. We are also touring Ireland, so if you’d like to attend one of our Irish events please register here!

Need inspiration about how automation can help your business? Then read on to find out how Atria Scandinavia, one of northern Europe’s leading manufacturers of vegetarian and gourmet products, automated its factory processes with user-friendly robots.

The Skene factory in western Sweden, one of four Atria Scandinavia factories, sees many of the plant’s 30 employees working side by side with three robot arms from Universal Robots. Each day, shrimps, olives, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and other specialties are marked with labels, packed and palletised at Atria Scandinavia.

"Our goal is to get reliable product lines where we can produce efficiently and effectively while keeping our staffing costs down. As a food producer, it is extremely important for us to minimise downtime, so we can supply fresh goods at a competitive price. The UR robots are a great automation solution, because they can run without safety fencing. It is a significant advantage that our employees can work right next to the robots and that they easily can adjust the robots when packing different types of products," explains Johnny Jansson, Atria’s Technical Manager responsible for the integration of “cobots”.

The Danish developed cobots have become a natural tool in the production at Atria. The easy programming and operation saves the company a lot of time when changing specific tasks, from packaging shrimp to packaging olives for example. Each production line is used to prepare an average of 228 items per hour for delivery and is required to be fast and flexible. Thanks to the collaborative robots, Atria has also optimised material usage in the packaging department, reducing carton waste by 25 percent since the first three cobots were implemented. What’s more, the payback period for each robot is just one year.
