From high-temperature films to haptic paint – Wipak offers a broad range of sustainable solutions

16 July 2015

Wipak develops a robust, kink-resistant plastic composite for high-temperature applications which can replace polyester (PET) and aluminum oxide (AlOx) composites.

Using the motto "You & Us – Partner in Packaging" for the FachPack trade show, Wipak emphasises the team spirit and the role of customers for innovative product development. Heat-resistant composites such as WALOX, stand-up pouches as a replacement of aluminum packages, paper/film combinations made of renewable resources, ultra-thin lidding films or reclosable solutions for PP trays are just some examples for this.

WALOX – Heat-resistant composite solution
Wipak has developed a robust, kink-resistant plastic composite for high-temperature applications which can replace polyester (PET) and aluminum oxide (AlOx) composites. WALOX is sterilizable up to a temperature of 130° celsius and can be heated in a microwave. The oxygen barrier quickly recovers after autoclave treatment. High oxygen barrier or long shelf life – WALOX is a sustainable, high-performance option for demanding market segments such as baby food, pet foot, and ready meals.

QuadroSeal bags: four sealed seams = high strength
Wipak has developed a special sealing layer for paper composites, standing out for extremely short sealing times, migration resistance and high strength. Thanks to the four sealed seams, the flowpack has the required strength. QuadroSeal thus is an adequate replacement of cardboard boxes. The integrated sealing layer has been specially developed for high-performance machines. It is clearly faster than conventional sealing layers and facilitates the processing of paper/film composite solutions. In addition it offers excellent hot tack properties; it is resistant immediately after sealing.

Thinner lidding films – reduced amount of material, top performance
Processors are able to effectively save resources by using thinner lidding films. Oxygen barrier, printability, antifog or sealing properties – the new composite solutions are comparable with clearly thicker grades. In addition, they offer a wrinkle-free, glossy look, and they can be refined using high-quality designs and individually designed windows.

Repak: Reclosable
Wipak has extended the portfolio of Repak products. In addition to established solutions for top and bottom using PE-based sealants, Wipak has optimized the product range for reclosing on mono-materials such as PET. Benefit: The films offer absolutely tight sealing, easy opening and multiple reclosing.

Robust skin for tough cases
The highly transparent Superclear scores due to high stability, robustness, and extremely high recovery. It is suitable for demanding products such as bacon. After completion of the packaging process, the flexible film tightly covers the bacon like a second skin. Hard edges will not damage the robust composite. Additional benefit: The quality features distinguishing a product such as bacon are clearly obvious thanks to the use of Superclear.

Services: adding value
Wipak’s range of services is a core building block for the development and production of premium-quality packaging solutions. Design support, market studies, application support, trainings, machine trials, or lab analyses – there is an ever growing demand for professional services and competent product support. Example PackDesign: Wipak’s range of services, including print technology consulting, optimization of package design, and development of sample packages, is constantly being extended and provided all over Europe. Wipak also covers the full technical range in the field of film printing, based on innovative technologies such as the combination of gravure and flexo-printing as well as special effects such as haptic paint or matt effects in order to cover all customer requirements.
