PPS East report successful launch of ‘Re-Fresh’ - a new range of reusable seafood packaging

21 May 2015

Reusable seafood packaging business PPS East Limited has successfully launched its new and innovative range of Re-Fresh fish boxes at the world's largest seafood trade fair in Brussels and were overwhelmed by the interest in the brand new product.

The PPS fish boxes branded as ‘Re-Fresh’ are now available in 3kg and 6kg in volume and feature new re-sealable leak-proof type lids for each box (patent pending design). The lids have a tight seal to prevent liquid leakage, but can easily be removed on opening.

Both the boxes have the same footprint dimensions but vary in height, so they can be stacked and palletised together saving space and protecting the product. Transport costs can also be substantially lower as the full durable boxes can be stacked higher when palletised due to their strength and when empty, nested together to save space saving in transport returns.

There are many benefits for the seafood businesses who decide to use the new Re-Fresh boxes instead of one-trip boxes for their fish supply, as they can achieve a massive reduction in packaging waste and improve their carbon footprint. The PPS Re-Fresh boxes are a world first in the fact that they can be resealed and continue to work as a leak-proof box for up to 10 years, and then can be recycled after use.

As per other PPS reusable seafood packaging including 50kg, 25kg and 15kg plastic fish boxes - the Re-Fresh boxes can either be purchased or rented depending on the customer and their particular supply chain. Also PPS can provide box delivery, collection and hygienic washing services too, and will manage the boxes on their online tracking system, Enable™ to prevent losses and increase traceability.

Kate Williamson, Business Development Manager for PPS East commented, ‘Thanks to the support of the North East Lincolnshire Council and RGF grant aid, we are so proud to have been able to develop and manufacture a totally new type of reusable fish box. These small lidded boxes can be reused and resealed so are great for sending fish straight into the supermarkets, for food service suppliers and into restaurants. Now that we have the boxes, I would love for a ‘forward-thinking’ seafood processor or retailer to allow us to trial the boxes through their supply-chain so we can measure exactly how much packaging waste, carbon and money can be saved by changing to the Re-Fresh boxes!’
