Dairy Crest Davidstow do it again
27 July 2012
Dairy Crest Davidstow took the trophy for champion single extra mature cheddar cheese, sponsored by Tetra Pak Processing Systems, at this year’s International Cheese Awards in Nantwich
The Davidstow creamery near Camelford also took the trophy in 2010 and 2011, having previously won the award in 2008 and 2006. The overall victor must first win one of three class awards in this category.
Other class winners in the extra mature cheddar category were the Irish Dairy Board and Shropshire-based Belton Cheese, a producer of organic cheddar and winner of the largest number of gold awards at the event.
The single extra mature cheddar classes are among the most fiercely contested at the event. Overall the awards received approaching 4000 entries from around the world.
On presenting the trophy Sean Bell of Tetra Pak Processing said:
“Winning a trophy at this event carries international prestige. Dairy Crest produces a range of excellent brands and has proved yet again that it can consistently produce cheese of the highest quality, year after year.”
