GlassGuard BlackBand coating now provides 50,000 hours of protection

24 July 2012

GlassGuard’s highly acclaimed BlackBand lamp coatings have recently undergone testing by a leading UK test laboratory. The result confirms the exceptional performance of the fragment retention lamp coating throughout its life.

A drop test after 50,000 burning hours showed no degradation of the fragment retention qualities of the lamps. This is an important confirmation of the effectiveness and longevity of the BlackBand coating, which protects products, profits and personnel by retaining the glass fragments in case of accidental lamp breakage.

The 50,000 hours of protection provided by the GlassGuard BlackBand range of fluorescent lamps far exceeds the minimum requirement for IEC 61549 (BS EN 61549) Fragment Retention Lamp Standard. The coating will retain its mechanical properties throughout the life of the lamp ensuring glass retention at the end of the lamp life. A lumen loss of less than 1% was also recorded from the 50,000 hour life.

Quality Manager Tony Self says: “We are committed to quality and continuous improvement in all areas of the company. This very positive test result is testament to the ongoing quality improvement processes that we have in place at GlassGuard.”
