Hi-speed valves for metal detection systems

18 June 2012

JACOB (UK) has introduced a new range of compact, 2-way fast acting pneumatic diverter valves, designed to separate metal contaminates from products in air conveyor pipework systems and gravity packing lines

Designed primarily for in-line processing applications where space is limited, the new range of fast acting metal contaminate diverters are recognised as ideal for gravity fed or low pressure air handling systems. The diverter valves are designed to suit 100, 150 and 200mm diameter pipes, they are compact, robust and reliable.

Speed of operation is critical in metal detection systems and the JACOB high-speed valve operates at 55 ms (milliseconds) using 100 mm diameter Jacob stainless steel pipe. Operating in conjunction with a in-line metal detection system, the JACOB valve assembly can be positioned approximately 500mm below the sensor, making it one of the fastest and most compact metal detection and pneumatic diverter systems available.

The JACOB fast acting 2-way asymmetrical valve operates at 60 degrees between outlets to divert any metal contaminates with minimal chance of damage to products. The valve has a built-in test grill and inspection port to facilitate examination, testing and routine maintenance.

JACOB (UK) Director John West said: “The latest range of JACOB fast acting metal detection valves enhance the ability of modular pipework systems in detecting and diverting metal contaminates in food and other products before packaging. This marks a major step forward in pipework technology and offers huge benefits for designers and manufacturers, where high specification, modular pipework systems set higher standards for conveying food items, drugs, seed and animal feed products.
