Returnable crates cut costs, packaging waste

29 May 2012

Companies in the food and grocery sectors can achieve significant cost and environmental savings by switching from single-use packaging, such as cardboard cartons, to returnable plastic crates.

Plastic crates are more hygienic than many alternatives – particularly hygienic plastic crates, which have smooth easy-to-clean surfaces, so perishables can be stored and transported without the need for multiple layers of protective packaging or stretch wrap.

Goplasticpallets.com has developed its Food range to offer a cost-effective selection of plastic crates and containers that can fulfil the demands of the entire food supply chain, from storing raw ingredients in production areas to delivering and displaying fresh produce in supermarkets.

The Food range includes over 40 variations of plastic containers, crates and trays, including hygienic crates, bale arm crates, containers that nest and stack and foldable containers which fold flat, ensuring minimal wastage space in transit and offering businesses considerable cost savings on return journey transportation.

All products in the range offer maximum durability and have been designed to be reused over and over again until they are finally ground down and recycled. Many of the crates and containers in the Food range are available in a variety of colour options and come with optional features including, printing for personalisation, label holders and hand holes.

Plastic crates don’t just hold the advantage over cardboard cartons for transporting food ingredients and fresh produce.

COOK Trading Ltd recently switched from metal trays to plastic crates placing three orders for Goplasticpallets.com’s GoBox 5035 food crates to store their raw ingredients ready for production in their homemade frozen meals.

The switch to plastic crates has had a dramatic result on the business saving almost £4,000 on the order, helping to increase production and reducing the weight of loads – a fact much appreciated by the food preparation team as they load, unload and transport the goods.
