Nicholl adds flexible film lidding to range

13 December 2011

Nicholl Food Packaging continues to widen its product offering following its appointment as the UK and Ireland distributor for Plastopil, a manufacturer of multilayer flexible barrier films and advanced packaging solutions for the food industry

The company will initially offer Plastopil’s Toplex film for the MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) lidding of trays and form fill seal machines, before adding further products from Plastopil’s extensive range to its expanding portfolio.

Co-extruded and laminated, Toplex Lidding Films are ideal for food trays manufactured in many different materials including aluminium foil, PE, PP, PS, PVC, PET, ovenable board, pulp board, paperboard and coated compostable fibre.

Toplex films are specially formulated for a wide variety of products such as chilled and frozen meat, poultry, seafood and cheese to optimise shelf life and reduce freezer burn. They can be specified in high, medium or low barrier and are available in a range of thicknesses, including some of the thinnest barrier flexible films, meaning they can be tailored to the precise requirements of individual products and applications.

Various seal layers are available to deliver locked or easy peel sealing, while the easy peel seals can be at different strengths to suit different products. Premium film grades can be specified for applications where high Hot Tack, extra strong seals, or sealing through product residue are needed.

Outstanding clarity and gloss and superior anti-fog properties maximise on-shelf appeal while the option for printing and the availability of blue and white versions provide additional branding opportunities.

Nicholl Food Packaging’s Group Chief Executive John Griffiths said, “Toplex films offer enormous flexibility for food products enabling us to offer customers a packaging solution in line with their particular product characteristics and marketing objectives. We look forward to extending our product portfolio further with more high quality innovative ranges from Plastopil.”

Article image Thinking outside the box…

The design brief for this product was to bring ‘bag in box’ wine into the 21st century. In order to do so, it was decided that wine in a box had to become ‘fashionable’. With the knowledge that 8 out of every 10 bottles of wine bought to drink at home are bought by women plus the knowledge that handbags are at the top of a woman’s most wanted list, the Vernissage Wine Handbag was, without doubt, the most obvious fashion choice.Full Story...
