Diageo receives award for business process improvement

18 November 2011

Premium drinks manufacturer Diageo has received an award at the 2011 Brammer Manufacturing Forum and Awards for cost-savings achieved within the management of its maintenance spares supply chain working in partnership with Brammer.

The business process improvement award was given to Diageo by Brammer, the UK’s leading distributor of industrial maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products, at Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry. The Brammer Awards, now in their fifth year, celebrated the very best in product and business process innovation within the UK manufacturing industry.

The business process improvement award highlights how production operations can be made to run more efficiently and profitably through better management of the maintenance spares supply chain.. Brammer has worked with Diageo over the past 12 months to improve its maintenance spares procurement and management.

This was achieved through reducing total acquisition costs over 37 UK sites by improving the purchase to pay process (removing 8,000 invoices), and through vendor consolidation, re-routing 243 suppliers and consolidating 114,000 parts.

Ian Ritchie, Managing Director of Brammer UK, said: “We have worked closely with Diageo over the last year to evaluate how the company can increase efficiency and reduce costs by improving the management of their maintenance spares supply chain, which were then put into action. The results simply speak for themselves and we would like to congratulate Diageo once again for winning the business process improvement award, which demonstrates that optimised changes to managing a businesses spares supply chain really can make a huge difference.”

The business process improvement award was presented to Tony McCartney, Supplier Performance Manager at Diageo.
