Cranswick choose Carnitech for new sausage line

20 September 2011

Following the purchase of Bowes of Norfolk Ltd by Cranswick plc in 2009, the Yorkshire based food manufacturer continues to invest in its pork business at the Watton site with the introduction of a brand new sausage line being the latest addition.

A central feature of the new line is mixing and grinding equipment from Carnitech, supplied by Interfood Technology, the newly appointed distributor for Carnitech in the UK and Eire. Chris Aldersley, Managing Director for Cranswick Norfolk, commented – “I am pleased to be working with Interfood. They have already supplied a wide range of equipment to the Cranswick Group and have established a good reputation. The technical knowledge and understanding demonstrated by their experienced product managers on this sausage line project is at a level that we’ve come to expect from Interfood.”

Martin Wareham, Product Manager for the meat preparation division of the Interfood Group, responsible for meat preparation equipment, said – “We are delighted that Cranswick have chosen to work with us, selecting a number of Carnitech machines, including a 280 fresh and frozen meat grinder and mixing equipment with CO₂ cooling. The Danish build quality of the equipment was a factor in the decision making process, as was the focus on hygiene that typifies the Carnitech range.”

The Watton site is an important part of the Cranswick pig-meat processing operation. It produces many sausages for Cranswick’s Gourmet Sausage Company which manufactures handlinked sausages to recipes from some of the UK’s leading chefs, including Jamie Oliver whose branded range is produced from the best cuts of British pork from pigs bred outdoors on British farms inspected and approved by Freedom Food.

Chris Aldersley continues – “Getting the mix right is critical when working to very specific recipes so making sure we had the right mixers for the job was an important decision for us. It is also about the back-up service and support and I know that this is something on which Interfood pride themselves.”
