Endoline help Oaklands Farm pack 1.4 million eggs per day

13 September 2011

Endoline Machinery have assisted a major egg distributor in setting up an efficient packaging system within their new factory – which will see over 1.4 million eggs being packed per day.

A family run business, Oaklands Farm Eggs rank among Europe’s elite - producing nearly 500 million eggs per year. The company recently opened a new technologically advanced packing station in Ruabon Wales which puts them in the unique position as the only provider of 100% Welsh eggs – all of which are not touched by human hand.

From the hens the eggs are transported through a vigorous seven stage microscopic inspection in the form of a Moba 500 Egg Grading Machine and if found to have any slight faults they are automatically discarded. Eggs are packed via a Moba CP12 case packer consisting of two high speed case packers that can each pack up to 12,500 eggs per hour. However a case erector was required to feed boxes into the Moba CP 12 case packer via a conveyor system, to enhance efficiency. Moba had previously worked in tandem with Endoline on other assignments, including a prior project with Oaklands in 2007, so were contacted to install a case erector which would be capable in dealing with the high volume of production whilst working in conjunction with Moba’s machinery.

With the installation running in two phases Endoline initially installed a 221 Case Erector which would be able to keep up with the high demand required from BOTH sides of the Moba CP12 Case Packer. Boxes formed by the Endoline 221 case erector – which features a unique dual opposing vacuum case opening which ensures each case is opened positively from both sides -were transported as a pair along a conveyor system to the CP12 to pack the eggs – at a rate of 960 boxes per hour.

In the second phase of the installation Endoline installed two Endoline 702 fully automatic pre-set case tapers and one Endoline 704 random case sealer.
