Spring has sprung award success for Cranswick

The pork processor says it has celebrated an award hat-trick as its work has been recognised for three successive months

Cranswick Country Foods has enjoyed an awards boom during March, April and May this year, receiving accolades for both its work as a processor and for the quality of its products in three consecutive months.

Awards won include recognition of individual talent within the business, praise for the company’s overall efficiency and taste awards for newly developed sausage and cooked ham ranges.

The company, which makes premium pork products for the consumer, won a total of eight awards this Spring, including:

- Young Processor of the Year at the Meat & Poultry Processing Awards, 28th March 2011

- Supplier of the Year at the OSI McDonald’s awards, 4th April 2011

- Personality of the Year at the OSI McDonald’s awards, 4th April 2011

- Joint winner at the FreeFrom Food Awards, 6th April 2011

- GOLD for its new Taste the Difference Cumberland sausage at the Grocer Food & Drink Own Label awards, 11th May 2011

- GOLD for its new Sainsbury’s Delicatessen Hand Carved Roast Ham at the Grocer Food & Drink Own Label awards, 11th May 2011

- SILVER for its new Tesco Finest Extra Matured Norfolk Outdoor Reared Pork Shoulder Joint at the Grocer Food & Drink Own Label awards, 11th May 2011

- SILVER for its new Tesco Finest British Outdoor Reared Yorkshire Cumberland Ham, at the Grocer Food & Drink Own Label awards, 11th May 2011

Bernard Hoggarth, Cranswick’s Chief Executive commented; “We are extremely proud of our achievements. Quality is the be all and end all of what we do, and this applies to both the creation of individual products and the systems involved in their supply. The awards are also a testimony to the talented and hardworking team behind both the licensed and supermarket own label brands that we produce.”

Full details of Cranswick’s Spring awards are as follows:

Young Processor of the Year, Meat & Poultry Processing Awards 2011

Cranswick’s Corrina Firth was awarded the ‘Young Processor of the Year’ title at the awards ceremony held at the National Motorbike Museum in Birmingham. Corrina joined Cranswick straight from University and her passion, dedication and enthusiasm were quickly recognised. Since starting at the business, Corrina has risen from Processing Operative to Production Manager. Corrina commented; “I did not expect to win. I am extremely pleased with the achievement and hope it will be as rewarding for Cranswick as a business; they have provided me with some excellent opportunities.”

Supplier of the Year and Personality of the Year, OSI McDonald’s awards 2011

Cranswick pork is used at McDonalds for the creation of iconic dishes such as the chain’s Sausage and Egg McMuffin. The company was named ‘Supplier of the Year’ as a result of its consistent product quality and dedicated supply.

At the same awards ceremony, Nick Mitchell, Senior Trading Manager, was awarded ‘Personality of the Year.’ Nick commented; “It is a huge compliment to be given this award but it really belongs to the whole team at Preston. It is fantastic that the team effort and commitment by my colleagues has been recognised and everyone should feel proud of themselves.”

Joint winner, FreeFrom Food awards 2011

Cranswick’s Black Farmer Premium Pork sausages were joint winners in the savoury pies, flans, pizzas, sausages and ready meals category at the FreeFrom Food awards in April. The judges said; "Really good classic sausages, not too salty but with an excellent meat content and a good flavour."

Two GOLD awards and Two SILVER, Grocer Food & Drink Own Label awards 2011

- GOLD within the chilled bacon and sausage category: Taste the Difference Cumberland sausage

Cranswick’s newly developed Taste the Difference Cumberland sausages won GOLD within the chilled bacon and sausage category. The sausages had recently been redeveloped and to be made with 100% Freedom Food British pork. The Cumberland recipe had also been perfected, using the perfect mix of white pepper, ground black pepper and parsley. Nicola Whiteread, National Account Manager at Cranswick had collected the award. Nicola commented that it was great the team had received recognition for all the hard work behind the product.

- GOLD within the chilled deli meats category: Sainsbury’s Delicatessen Hand Carved Roast Ham

Another new product for Cranswick, Sainsbury’s Hand Carved Roast Ham was awarded GOLD within the chilled deli meats category. Made using whole legs of outdoor reared British pork, this ham is marinated by hand in honey before being gently cooked on the bone. Judges felt the ham delivered a succulent, meaty and full flavour with gentle honeyed tones.

The prizes did not stop there, with Cranswick also bringing home two further SILVER awards:

- SILVER within the best beef, lamb and pork product category: Tesco

Finest Extra Matured Norfolk Outdoor Reared Pork Shoulder Joint with pork and apricot stuffing

- SILVER within the best deli meat category: Tesco Finest British Outdoor Reared Yorkshire Crumbled Ham
