Culina Logistics 'goes extra mile for Cadbury'

26 May 2011

Culina Logistics completed the delivery of 25,000 cases of Cadbury Easter Eggs to 263 National Trust properties throughout the UK and Ireland to support the chocolate manufacturer’s sponsorship of the Trust’s Easter Egg Trails

This is the fourth year that the National Trust and National Trust Scotland has run the Easter Egg Trails with the support of Cadbury. Children follow a unique trail at each property and complete a series of fun activities and quizzes related to the specific location before receiving a Cadbury Easter Egg and Cadbury Egghead certificate.

Culina Logistics managed the supply of the Easter Eggs to the properties in time for the first events on Good Friday. Many National Trust properties are closed over winter and only open at the beginning of April, or even at Easter itself. Others are closed and un-staffed on certain weekdays.

All of this means there is a limited period when deliveries can be made and scheduling is crucial to ensure all sites receive their Easter Eggs on time.

Through its national network of shared user distribution centres Culina Logistics co-ordinated the deliveries from the end of March onwards. Eight trunker lorry loads of eggs were initially despatched from the company’s Wolverhampton facility, close to Cadbury production sites, before transfer to the rest of the network.

The company then completed the delivery to individual National Trust properties, many of which are in rural or remote locations, using its own transport. This included providing detailed instructions of when, where and how to make the deliveries to minimise the need for a repeat visit.

The company also kept track of all sites that had received their eggs to provide Cadbury, its brand experience partner Sense, and the National Trust with up-to-date status reports. The largest properties received over 350 cases while the smallest required fewer than ten.

Culina Logistics has provided ambient, chilled and temperature controlled warehousing and distribution services to Cadbury for many years.
