FDF welcomes Trade White Paper

09 February 2011

“We welcome the White Paper’s recognition of the importance of trade and inward investment to economic recovery,'' says the Food & Drink Federation's Andrew Kuyk, Director of Sustainability

Andrew Kuyk further said: “We believe that food and drink manufacturing has the potential to make an even greater contribution to this, particularly through our export performance which we expect to pass the £10 billion export mark early this year. The Government’s commitment to do all that it can to remove financial and legal barriers and address issues such as skills shortages will also have an important role to play in this.

“In particular we welcome the fact that Government recognises that international trade has a key role to play in global food security and that open trade is essential to ensure that the world’s food supplies can reach the right markets. An early and successful conclusion to the Doha Round will be essential to achieving this.

“The support for SMEs is also encouraging. Many SMEs are unaware of the services provided by UKTI and the export opportunities available. We look forward to UKTI’s plans for enhancing the practical help provided to potential exporters.''
