A flavour for success

The Firmenich factory in Thirsk, responsible for providing food flavouring to some leading brands, has completed its nine-month building and refurbishment project

The building and refurbishment project involved installing a GEA Niro Spray Dryer for the production of food flavours and the fitting of Motors, Valves, instrumentation and control boxes in eight operational rooms split over the building’s four floors.

The requirement to continually clean, access and protect cabling while also maintaining high operational standards were identified as important requirements of the project.

Barry Booth, a Director for the DES Group who installed the spray dryer; comments: “This is a complex installation which had to be delivered to programme and cost. It was essential that any cabling could be accessed for cleaning and that the fixtures needed to be robust enough to cope with the corrosive chemical cleaning that goes on in food factories.”

To carry the required cabling, the DES Group turned to Cablofil wire trays due to their cost effective installation, robust construction and hygienic qualities as well as the fact they can be mounted against wipeable walls. The quality of wire mesh used in the Cablofil trays is a greater 316L grade, rather than the more standard 304L grade, which helps protect the trays from becoming dull or tarnished in more aggressive environments.

Barry continues; “The Cablofil stainless steel wire trays used on the job ensured that there are no dirt or dust traps and that factory operators can spray down the walls and cabling as part of the regular GMP cleaning processes required in a food factory.”
