Eco-friendly food trays from Van Der Windt UK

01 April 2010

Van Der Windt UK has added to its biodegradable products by securing an agreement to distribute a range of eco-friendly food containers and packaging in UK and Ireland, Benelux and Denmark

The new products form part of a comprehensive 15,000-strong range available from Van Der Windt UK which specialises in servicing the horticultural, agricultural and retail sectors as well as food markets.

Trays, bowls, plates and food containers are made from natural fibre and are created in a six-stage forming and sterilizing process, making them capable of withstanding temperatures from 200°C to -25°C. The products are certified as biodegradable and compostable to European Union and United States standards, making them ideal for a range of food applications.

The new range is expected to be particularly successful in the catering and agricultural sectors as they can be used for example for food on the go, outside catering, convenience food packaging and as containers for fruit and vegetables. The product range also works well with biodegradable and compostable films supplied by Van Der Windt UK.

This is the latest addition to the already extensive selection of products supplied by Van Der Windt UK, all chosen to reflect the company’s customer-focused approach dedicated to high quality service delivered efficiently and at market-leading value. Van Der Windt UK enjoys close links with sister Clondalkin Group companies Wentus and LPF Flexibles, giving it access to an extensive range of flexible packaging solutions.

Van Der Windt UK general manager Richard Selby said: “We’re very excited to have exclusively added these biodegradable food containers and packaging to the large and varied range of products we provide our customers.

“The manufacturers’ commitment to using sustainable materials and the products’ compostable and biodegradable nature will make this a very popular range for customers requiring a disposable food tray product that is ‘green’ as well as durable and robust.

“All of the products within the range are heat, water and oil resistant and can be formed in a variety of shapes and sizes, offering a highly attractive set of attributes for customers in the UK, Denmark and Benelux regions.”

Van Der Windt UK, based in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, is part of the Van Der Windt Group which has extensive facilities in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Ireland.

The group serves 6,000 customers across Europe with a 15,000-strong product range for the agriculture, horticulture, retail, food-service, hotel, restaurant and catering, cleaning and hospital, and food and non-food industry markets. The Van der Windt Group is owned by Clondalkin Group, which is an international producer of high value added packaging products and services.
