Reverse print technology
13 January 2010
Ultimate Packaging says it was recently given an interesting challenge by Yorkshire Fresh Fruit (YFF), in Selby, part of the Bakkavor Group

YFF currently supplies a wide range of fresh prepared fruit products for Asda and Sainsbury’s. These retail packs normally consist of a printed polyester lidding film, an APET tray and a paper based label giving nutrition information.
Ann Rhodes, Packaging and Material Buyer at YFF was recently set the objective by Asda to dispense with the paper-based label to make their range of packs both more recyclable, reduce the weight of packaging and lower cost.
The print and technical team at Ultimate combined the existing film and label designs and provided the solution to YFF by printing a 10 colour design on their new Soma Imperior press.
Ultimate used its new Kodak NX plate and Digi-Cap plate technology to print both a dense silver and white to stop show through from front to back and reverse printed the text information.
The Asda Pineapple Fingers design was selected to prove the technology worked and to provide the perfect solution for YFF.
Ann Rhodes commented ‘We have had an excellent relationship with Ultimate for many years and they invariably deliver the innovation we require to satisfy the demands of the food retailers."
Chris Tonge, Sales & Marleting Director at Ultimate added: "The new reverse print technology is another industry-leading innovation from Ultimate Packaging. The new concept has been well-received by our customers and by the multiples as a result. A great way to begin 2010!"
