FDF's formula for success
26 January 2009
One of the key speakers at the upcoming Appetite for Engineering, Phase 2 event to be held at the Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire on 9-10 February is Julian Hunt, communication's director for the Food & Drink Federation (FDF)

Julian will talk on the first day of the conference.
He will address how the food and drinks industry is building a sustainable future by understanding that focussing on the environment can provide a win-win for food businesses, responding to the health debate and managing the turbulent economic climate.
A journalist by training, Julian joined the FDF as director of communications in August 2006. Before that, he was editor of weekly magazine The Grocer - a post he held for almost five years.
During his time as editor, he was named editor of the year twice in the Business Food and Drink Journalist Awards, and the magazine won the award for Publication of the Year three times. The Grocer was, in addition, highly commended in the industry-wide PPA Awards in 2003; and Julian was highly commended as editor of the year in 2006.
He has spent 11 years reporting on the food and drink retail sectors on both The Grocer and Off Licence News. His 19-year career as a business journalist also included stints reporting on the global packaging industry and the international shipping sector.
The FDF says it is the voice of the UK food and drink industry, the largest manufacturing sector in the country, and that its membership comprises manufacturers of all sizes as well as trade associations and groups dealing with specific sectors of the industry.
‘’A successful food and drink sector is a vital component of a healthy UK economy,’’ the FDF says. ‘’For instance: our industry directly employs 500,000 people, and as many as 1.2 million in ancillary services; it accounts for 15% of the UK's total manufacturing sector by value; and it is an invaluable partner to British agriculture buying two-thirds of what farmers produce.’’
