Blaze at snack food warehouse

A large part of a warehouse belonging to Indian snack manufacturer, UK Snacks, was destroyed by fire at the weekend. Twenty fire engines and 120 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at an industrial estate in Orient Way, Leyton. 

The fire brigade was called at 5.22am on Saturday 23rd June. Rod Wainwright Fire station manager, who was at the scene, said: "There were large volumes of smoke and we advised all nearby residents in the area to keep their doors and windows closed until the smoke plume had diminished." The fire was under control by noon.

UK Snacks Ltd produces a range of traditional Indian style snacks as well as a variety of other snack foods a team of 50 production staff are employed at the site.
