Enhance hygiene and save money

Enhanced hygiene, reduced downtime and lower maintenance are proven to result from installations of Lafert’s ‘Marlin’ stainless steel motors. Installed on such diverse applications as confectionary manufacture, fish processing, breakfast cereal production, cheese manufacturing, salad preparation and fruit juice blending Marlin motors have enabled savings of several thousands of pounds within just twelve months. 

Typical uses include conveying, mixing, washing, chopping, pumping and hot/cold food coating dispensing.

Marlin motors are smooth bodied and IP66/69K rated, characteristics that facilitate cleaning and promote greater hygiene. Being smooth bodied, the motors have no crevices to harbour or trap potential contaminants (even the name plate is etched into the body). Further, being high-pressure hose wash-down tolerant, the motors are very easy to clean.

Reduced downtime principally results from fewer motor failures or degradation caused by harsh environmental conditions which can cause such issues as ingress of contaminants into the motor, flaking paint and rust with standard motors. Examples of where Marlin motors have been installed successfully include corrosive cheese manufacturing plants, warm, humid environments where breakfast cereals are being produced and on machines applying savoury snacks with hot coatings.

Ingress of moisture into motors can be a major problem in the processing of fresh produce such as salads and potatoes where water is used for washing the product. This is not an issue for Lafert’s stainless steel motors because they are IP66/69K. The stainless steel body and shaft eliminate the rust problem whilst a single piece terminal box and durable Viton seals prevent water prevent moisture penetration reducing the potential for electrical and mechanical failure. In addition, Lafert can also install permanent long leads and encapsulate connections within the terminal box.

Painted motors working in any of the above environments could be vulnerable to flaking paint and rust, both of which present issues of potential product contamination and accelerated motor failure. Marlin motors greatly reduce the risk of such issues. This is demonstrated by the fact that the installation of just two Marlin motors by a leading breakfast cereal manufacturer saved over £4000 on reduced maintenance costs alone in twelve months.

Marlin motors are offered in power ratings from 0.18 to 15 kW in metric frame sizes up to 160 as TEFC machines. Smaller units (up to 0.75 kW) are also available from 63 frame size as TENV machines. TEAOM versions are also available for installations where motors experience a continuous airstream flow.

Helping to extend the range of applications are compatible stainless steel worm and helical bevel gearboxes, and an integrated stainless steel brake module option. Worm gearboxes, which have hollow shafts with life lubricated gears, are available with centre distances of 31, 42, 61, 79 and 99mm with ratios from 5:1 to 75:1. Torques range from 0.9Nm to 891Nm and options include gears with torque pins, food spec lubricants and various output shaft designs. Other adaptations can be offered upon request.
