Seal failure analysis tool

21 January 2018

Flowserve can now offer a simple app which can help diagnose the root-cause of mechanical seal failure.

Around 98% of mechanical seals will prematurely fail, long before they have reached their optimum design life-time expectancy, according to analysis from Flowserve. Mechanical seal failures are the number one cause of pump and mixer down-time.

The Flowserve Seal Failure Analysis app is a web-based tool that has been designed to visually identify and prevent future mechanical seal failures. The reference tool is accessible via desktop, tablet and mobile devices, offering a useful new resource for reliability engineers and maintenance staff, responsible for troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.

Shaun Hampson, general manager of the Flowserve UK facility, said: “This new way of supporting our customers, on a 24/7/365 basis, provides engineers at their finger-tips. When a seal fails, it is often a critical breakdown situation and companies don’t have the time to wait for an engineering expert to visit the site in order to provide a diagnosis.”
