New speaker joins Meatup seminar line-up

13 May 2017

The organisers of Meatup, the UK meat sector’s dedicated trade show, have announced that a new industry expert has joined the line-up of seminar speakers at the show, which takes place on 24-25th May.

Henrietta Sameke, technical policy advisor at the British Meat Processors Association (BMPA), will be presenting on the centre stage in the Seminar Theatre on the show’s opening day, Wednesday 24th May, at 2.00pm.

She will be talking about the impact of regulation on the meat industry, discussing some of the challenges presented by the Food Information to Consumers Regulation and will look at the needs of the industry in future food legislation. She wanted to highlight the regulation issues which have had a big impact on the meat industry, and will be considering what can be done to change the future regulatory landscape.

Other speakers at Meatup will include: Nathan Ward, business unit director for Meat, Fish and Poultry at Kantar Worldpanel; Peter Wareing, food safety and manufacturing consultant at Leatherhead Food Research; Norman Bagley, head of policy at the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS); Dr. Phil Hadley, head of global supply chain development at AHDB Beef & Lamb and Lucianne Allen, sales & marketing director at Aubrey Allen, discussing the apprentice trailblazer scheme for retail butchers.

The National Food Crime Unit’s Gavan Wafer is now unable to speak at the show due to the restrictions imposed by purdah, which now apply as a result of the forthcoming General Election.

The new look Meatup will be held at the ArenaMK, Milton Keynes, on 24th and 25th May. The show is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm on opening day and from 9.30am to 4.00pm on the second day. A free bacon butty and hot drink is available to all visitors before 11.00am each morning, sponsored by Lucas Ingredients.

The event includes an array of exhibitors from all sections of the meat industry, as well as craft butchery competitions hosted by the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders (NFMFT). Trial heats for Team GB of The World Butchers’ Challenge will also take place at the show.
