New filter range launched by Piab

17 June 2016

Piab has just launched a new secondary air filter range designed to provide extra protection for chemical and pharmaceutical conveying.

A safe workplace environment for staff working in chemical and pharmaceutical production facilities is absolutely vital. With this in mind, Piab has just launched a new, ultra-fine secondary air filter range for use in conjunction Piab’s vacuum conveying systems. These are standard accessories. The sterile filters are of the ultra-fine filtration class – U15-17 - or Ultra Low Penetration Air (ULPA) filters. The filtration efficiency is rated at 99.9999%.

The new filter units offer greatly improved filtration performance when compared with the High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters which are often used today. Designed to fit the capacity of any Piab compressed air driven vacuum pump, the filters can be used in a broad range of vacuum conveying applications.

If used in conjunction with Piab’s state-of-the-art piFLOW®p conveyors for pharmaceutical powder and bulk materials or the dedicated tablet conveyor piFLOW®t, the filter units will ensure that the exhaust air is completely free from medically active ingredients thereby eliminating any potential health risks to the processing staff.

Tomas Dahl is the Strategic Sales OEM Manager of Piab’s Materials Handling Division: “The filter units are designed to be fitted between the pump and the conveyor body. They are easy to fit and to remove for replacement. However, if primary filters are correctly fitted, dimensioned and maintained, these secondary filters should last indefinitely and never need to be replaced.”

Piab’s vacuum conveying systems are used widely throughout the chemical and pharmaceutical industries for handling a wide range of products which are best kept away from the production work force. These materials are typically fed into mixers and blenders, tablet presses, and packaging machines. Now with these new filters installed production managers can be assured of the complete removal of any traces of enzymes and other harmful materials from the exhaust air.
