Wrights invest £1.2 million in new pie production line

24 November 2015

Wrights Food Group is poised to step up production of its extensive range of pies following a £1.2 million investment in a new Rademaker production line.

The installation of the pie line at its food manufacturing facility in Crewe will give Wrights the capacity to double pie production, expand the product range and further improve quality and efficiency.

The latest Rademaker line replaces an older production facility, and will complement an existing line which shares the same tooling with 14 different tooling sizes and shapes providing enhanced flexibility.

As well as a broad range of savoury and Christmas mince pies, the line also enables Wrights to produce suet puddings thanks to the extra 50ml depth capacity.

Features of the new pie line include an option to double deposit with two different fillings into the same pie, which provides greater originality, allowing the company to produce a far more varied range of products. Individual weight controls on each depositor lane also provides more accurate measurement, reducing spillage and wastage, whilst an automatic seeder at the end of the line enables herbs and seeds to be added to the product.

In between the lanes, operatives are able to manually add other toppings such as oven roasted root vegetables or crumb based toppings, providing extra added value to the pies Wrights supply.

Wrights currently produces 150 million savoury products per annum and the latest investment will enable additional capacity as the company expands its food service and retail customer base.

Neville Carruthers, Wrights operations director, said:  “We are continuing to invest in our Crewe production facility and the installation of this new improved line underlines our commitment to providing customers with a wide choice of quality products that can be tailored to their individual specifications.”
