Critical Dairy Process Temperatures Restored by Andrews Chiller Hire

19 November 2015

A major UK producer of yogurt and milk-based drinks turned to Andrews Chiller Hire to help maintain correct temperature in their packaging, storage and distribution areas when ambient temperature started to fluctuate.

Changes in temperature happen for a variety of reasons, a significant increase in productivity, change in environmental conditions or an in-plant system becomes unreliable. Whatever the situation, failure to maintain a constant five degrees Celcius would prove a financial disaster – for safety reasons product would be destroyed and with no customer deliveries, reputations are at stake.

With a team of experienced engineer working out of more than 25 depots strategically placed around the UK Andrews Chiller Hire can respond very quickly.  The Company has established a reputation for delivering solutions to chilling problems in under a targeted 4 hour period.  It is this rapid response that continually saves customers’ reputations along with many millions of pound in lost revenue.

For the yogurt and milk based drinks company a 100kW chiller and a 150kW air handling unit (AHU) was despatched to site from the Andrews Heathrow depot and installed with 24in ducting feeding into the building.

On one occasion this Chiller/AHU set-up was used to recirculate chilled air from the packaging area to boost existing cooling and assist with temperature reduction.  On another emergency situation the identical arrangement was deployed to prevent temperature in the storage and distribution areas from exceeding safe limits.

In many installations carried out by Andrews Chiller Hire it is the air handlers that act as the recirculating systems, drawing air from a room, routing to the chiller and returning the air at a much lower temperature.  The skills of Andrews’ engineering teams come in to play in calculating and matching chiller power rating with properly sized air handling units to deliver and achieve the constant, required low temperature.
