tna acquires inserting and labelling specialist Unique Solutions

10 November 2015

tna announces the expansion of its family of brands with the acquisition of Unique Solutions®, a leading provider of value-added inserts and onserts which are dispensed and/or applied using Unique Solutions’ full range of inserting and labelling equipment.

Through its latest acquisition, tna gains valuable access to Unique Solutions’ turnkey In-Pak® and On-Pak® programs utilising the company’s industry-leading continuous perforated bandolier (CPB) technology. The acquisition forms part of tna’s ongoing strategy to support food manufacturers worldwide with a full range of solutions in its ever growing portfolio of innovative packaging and processing solutions from a single source.

Alf Taylor, CEO at tna commented, “Unique Solutions was the obvious choice for us. Their solutions are easily integrated into our own packaging equipment and the company’s focus on partnership and high performance equipment complements our own values and commitment to being much more than just a supplier to our customers. We’re extremely excited to welcome Unique Solutions to our growing family of brands and look forward to introducing their services and products to our customers worldwide.”

Joyce Witt, Chairman/CEO of Unique Solutions commented, “We are very excited to be joining the tna team. After working with tna for many years, becoming part of the company was very easy; it was a natural progression. Especially after realising that together we can bring Unique Solutions to more people in more places. We share the same philosophy that our customers come first and share the same vision of providing complete turnkey solutions. As tna continues to grow, we look forward to being part of their success and are excited that we have the opportunity to help more customers achieve new levels of success too.”

Performance Driven Solutions
Based in Chicago, USA, Unique Solutions has been developing and manufacturing internationally-patented continuous-feed systems and labelling equipment since 1978. Using their innovative CPB technology, Unique Solutions’ equipment inserts value-added two-dimensional (e.g. coupons, magnets, and tattoos) and three-dimensional items (e.g. toys, scoops and dry or liquid-filled sachets), into primary packaging at industry-leading speeds up to 1,000 pieces per minute with a proven accuracy level of 99.9 per cent.

Unique Solutions’ fully automated, high speed inserting and labelling equipment allows clients to execute successful brand-enhancing and market-share-grabbing promotions efficiently and affordably.

Unique Solutions’ innovative equipment design easily integrates with all types of production lines including high performance vertical or horizontal form fill and seal applications as well as cartoning, flow-wrapping and conveying lines.  Additionally, Unique Solutions’ labelling equipment is compatible with any application requiring wipe-on, blow-on, tamp-on, corner-wrap, swing tamp or vertical form fill and seal packaging lines providing the ultimate in performance driven solutions.

Flexible Turnkey Solutions
In 1989, Unique Solutions revolutionised the promotional market with turnkey In-Pak and On-Pak programmes that offered customers solutions for inserting and labelling-driven marketing projects. Throughout the scope of an In-Pak and On-Pak project, Unique Solutions liaises with the customer’s marketing group, engineering staff and procurement department to create a promotional or value-added programme using food-grade inks to print coupons and/or labels and overwrapping 2D or 3D inserts using barrier films for direct food contact.

Because of Unique Solutions’ marketing strategy and high performance inserting and labelling equipment, the company has developed close relationships with the top 100 companies in the CPG (consumer packaged goods) sector as well as many of the Fortune 500 global companies.

Single Source Solutions
For tna, the acquisition means that the business adds a wide range of customer focused solutions, to its expansive portfolio of innovative materials handling, processing, coating, distribution, seasoning, weighing, packaging, cooling, freezing, metal detection, and verification equipment. At the same time, tna’s global network of offices and manufacturing sites will allow Unique Solutions to significantly expand its international reach, enabling the company to serve a much wider audience with its innovative products and services.

“The food industry changes at such a rapid pace, and product innovation is an absolute must if you want to stay competitive,” adds Taylor. “We were therefore keen to expand our services in the promotional and value-add packaging arena - these solutions can add immense value to manufacturers, from eye-catching labels and coupons to seasoning sachets and toys, the possibilities are limitless.

The acquisition is effective from 4th November, 2015.
